I am honored and passionate in offering my expertise to transform your well-being. I have been a nurse practitioner for over thirty years and have worked in a variety of healthcare settings.
My experience encompasses a broad-based spectrum of caring for the very ill in a Critical Care (hospital) setting to women’s health care on the other end of the spectrum. In women’s health, I've performed women's health screenings necessary to diagnose life threatening issues. I have cared for breast cancer patients from diagnosis through survivorship.
I have in-depth knowledge of genetics including pathologic mutations and Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms, (called SNPs and pronounced “snips”), the most common type of genetic variation among people. Genetics provide information to enable skilled practitioners to guide people to the correct treatment as well as make lifestyle changes to achieve optimal health and wellness.
My personal health and wellness journey began after realizing my physical wellbeing had suffered after working full time as a NP and raising two children. I transformed my own diet by educating myself with the concept of Food as Medicine, changing to a whole food, plant-based diet and removing additives and preservatives. I restarted exercising and playing tennis - which I had not done since early adulthood. My efforts resulted in a thirty pound weight loss.
I continued to educate myself through the School of Applied Functional Medicine. Functional medicine allows us to use all the tools of the trade - including traditional medicine, diagnostics, nutrition, and genetics to assess and improve your health. Functional medicine also shifts from a disease-oriented approach to a comprehensive and preventative approach to feel better, get well and stay well. I am excited to guide you on your journey to optimize your health!
